{"id":3592,"date":"2017-06-20T18:05:42","date_gmt":"2017-06-20T08:05:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/support.cybersecure.com\/?p=3592"},"modified":"2017-06-21T11:48:07","modified_gmt":"2017-06-21T01:48:07","slug":"snapshotvss-common-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/support.cybersecure.com\/?p=3592","title":{"rendered":"Snapshot\/VSS common issues"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Issue<\/h2>\n<p>Backups regularly fail with some type of snapshot error<\/p>\n<h2>Cause<\/h2>\n<p>Snapshot issues are probably the most common cause of backup failures, some common causes of snapshot issues are:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Issues with the VSS (volume snapshot services) subsystem<\/strong>: this can be determined by checking the output of\u00a0<strong>vssadmin list writers<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Overloaded\u00a0disk\/storage performance on the machine<\/strong>: windows events that log VSS timeouts are often due to an overloaded disk subsystem. Machines with a lack of free RAM can experience significant swapping, which results in overloaded disks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>An\u00a0underlying disk\/storage\u00a0fault<\/strong>: failing storage hardware can often cascade problems into upper levels such as the VSS subsystem.
