{"id":1197,"date":"2012-03-08T11:35:24","date_gmt":"2012-03-08T00:35:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/support.cybersecure.com\/?p=1197"},"modified":"2022-08-19T15:53:27","modified_gmt":"2022-08-19T05:53:27","slug":"fixing-sonicwall-tcp-timeouts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/support.cybersecure.com\/?p=1197","title":{"rendered":"Fixing Sonicwall TCP timeouts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sonicwall devices appear to ship with very aggressive TCP timeout settings &#8211; these can affect long-lived TCP transfers such as backups for CyberSecure.<\/p>\n<p>To increase the TCP timeout setting:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Login to your Sonicwall device<\/li>\n<li>Go to the top-level menu item &#8220;Firewall&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Choose &#8220;TCP Settings&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Change the &#8220;Default TCP Connection Timeout&#8221; from its default value of 15 minutes to 720 minutes (that&#8217;s 12 hours)<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/support.cybersecure.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/sonicwall-tcp-timeout.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1198\" title=\"sonicwall-tcp-timeout\" src=\"http:\/\/support.cybersecure.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/sonicwall-tcp-timeout-300x223.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"223\" srcset=\"http:\/\/support.cybersecure.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/sonicwall-tcp-timeout-300x223.png 300w, http:\/\/support.cybersecure.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/sonicwall-tcp-timeout-1024x762.png 1024w, http:\/\/support.cybersecure.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/sonicwall-tcp-timeout.png 1156w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>You may need to restart the device for the changes to take effect<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Further troubleshooting<\/h2>\n<p>If the above process does not resolve the issue, then a per-rule timeout change may be required.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Create a new Firewall access rule<\/li>\n<li>Allow outgoing SFTP port 22 to 203.209.195.103<\/li>\n<li>Under the &#8220;Advanced&#8221; tab change the TCP timeout to something longer than the default 15 minutes (perhaps 720 minutes, 12 hours)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sonicwall devices appear to ship with very aggressive TCP timeout settings &#8211; these can affect long-lived TCP transfers such as backups for CyberSecure.
